Attractions
Dovedale - walk up to Milldale and back. Allow 3 hours.
Tissington Trail - cycle along this old railway line that is 13 miles long. There is a nice pub near Parsley Hay called the Royal Oak, Hurdlow. You can extend the route and join the High Peak Trail.
Make sure you visit Annie's Candle Shop and the Old Fashioned Sweet Shop - Edward & Vintage - in Tissington.
National Trust Properties:
- Ilam Park
- Kedleston Hall
- Sudbury Hall
- Hardwick Hall
Alton Towers - only 9 miles away.
Chatsworth House - the ultimate stately home attracting visitors from all round the world. There is an animal farm which is a big hit with children, too.
Carsington Water - 8 miles around the reservoir. You can hire bikes to complete the circular route, or hire kayaks/canoes to have fun on the water, or do a day's fishing.
Manifold Trail - gentle walk along the disused railway line. There is a cafe and toilets at Wetton Mill.
Hartington - the historic Derbyshire village with an excellent cheese shop - one of only 4 creameries in the country that is able to produce Stilton, which is, in our opinion, simply the finest blue cheese produced!
Bakewell - busy market town with outdoor shops. Make sure to taste the famous Bakewell pudding.
